Vacancy – Fundraising Manager
Job purpose: The post-holder will develop the bpf’s fundraising efforts across various streams.
Location: Hybrid: Combination of bpf’s offices at 37 Mapesbury Road, Kilburn, London NW2 4HJ and home working
Salary: £50,000 per annum (35 Hours per week – Full Time)
Accountable to: Director of Academic and Strategic Development

The Fundraising Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing the bpf’s work and mission. This exciting opportunity would suit a fundraising professional with effective leadership, strategic thinking and analytical skills. Proven experience within the non-profit sector, with a broad range of fundraising skills and expertise, is essential. This role will suit someone who can roll their sleeves up and get the job done, as well as someone looking to take on a more strategic and project management role.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to build strong and productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internally and externally. There is significant scope and opportunity for the Fundraising Manager to shape bpf’s work around trusts and foundations, individual giving, challenge/community events, and corporate partnerships (all in their relative infancy at the charity and needing someone with experience and vision to broaden our reach and grow our current income).
The successful candidate will also have a track record of achieving income targets and managing successful, multi-stream fundraising campaigns. During the interview process, we would like to hear examples of the software, channels, and customer/donor relationship management tools (CRMs) you have used to build and manage fundraising campaigns.
Working alongside the Director of Academic and Strategic Development, the successful candidate will need to be a good team player, flexible, hardworking and prepared to play an enthusiastic role in helping the organisation increase its fundraising income.

Vacancy – Lay Trustee (safeguarding expertise)

We are currently seeking one lay trustee who can bring a high level of knowledge and experience in safeguarding expertise to our board. We are looking for a person who is interested in learning about the field of psychoanalysis and is willing to understand the complexities and difficulties involved in providing high quality, intensive trainings, and low-fee psychotherapy in a financially difficult environment. The bpf is committed to finding creative and innovative ways of meeting our charitable objectives which include increasing access to psychoanalysis and widening the diversity of our membership.
The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to the bpf’s mission and values and will bring a high level of knowledge and experience in the following key area:
- a lay trustee who can hold responsibility for oversight of safeguarding in the organisation. The trustee will work closely with our Head of Safeguarding and our Child Safeguarding lead and will provide the board with assurance and feedback about our safeguarding policies and compliance. The bpf needs to provide safeguarding for our staff, our professional members, our trainees and our patients.
Essential criteria
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate some aspects of the following:
- understanding of the role of a Board of Trustees.
- ability to challenge rigorously and debate constructively.
- strong communication and inter-personal skills.
- genuine interest in the work of the British Psychotherapy Foundation.
- knowledge and experience of safeguarding practices as determined by the Safeguarding Adult Board and Charity Commission.

Time commitment and term of office
Meetings are held quarterly with members attending brief pre- and post-meeting private discussions.
Trustees may be contacted between meetings via email or telephone, on a limited basis and only as strictly necessary.
Meetings are scheduled one year in advance and dates will only change in exceptional circumstances. Attendance is recorded and published as part of the annual reporting cycle.
Meetings primarily take place online via teams.
The initial term of office is three years, subject to performance. Members are not employees of the British Psychotherapy Foundation. The British Psychotherapy Foundation has discretion to renew the appointment at the end of the first term of office, subject to consistently good performance. There should therefore be no assumption of automatic reappointment.
Remuneration and expenses
The Board of Trustees members do not receive a fee but are eligible to claim reasonable expenses for travel incurred on British Psychotherapy Foundation business.

Vacancy – Director of bpf Northern Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training
Hours of work: 1 day a week, including some evenings and weekends (meetings or training days). Hours can be worked flexibly around clinical work although some meetings such as Heads of Trainings meetings and all staff meetings should be attended. The hours could increase if the training courses grow.
Location: Working from home, occasional visits to teaching rooms, and occasional visits to bpf house in London.
Salary: £60,000 FTE (1 day per week, £12,000 per annum actual)
Accountable to: CEO & Director of Clinical Services

The Director of bpf Northern Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive annual program of PA and PD trainings in the North. This role involves managing the development of curriculum, selection processes, and various annual tasks through committee oversight. Key responsibilities include recruiting, evaluating, and planning for seminar leaders and teaching staff, as well as overseeing tutor recruitment and trainee allocation. The Director will attend monthly Heads of Trainings meetings and engage in line management with the CEO or Director of Clinical Services. Collaboration with the training manager is essential for planning and establishing written documents, virtual learning materials, and hybrid teaching delivery methods. Additionally, the Director will manage the budget, coordinate the interview and selection process, and oversee the induction and final clinical paper marking for new trainees. Monitoring and implementing feedback from trainees and teaching staff, and ensuring ongoing CPD for training supervisors and therapists, are also critical components of this role.
